Leadership Coaching
Leaders are people too. We get stuck. We aim too high, or too low. And sometimes, we think we see others placing obstacles in our path when we’re actually holding ourselves up.
Leaders set a vision, assemble a team, set the direction, provide the inspiration, remove the obstacles. It can seem straightforward, but the reality is never easy. That's where a coach can help.
Alan Heymann has spent a lifetime listening. Coaching with him starts with what’s actually alive for you, not a list of categories picked in advance. Clients have brought him everything from:
living in an extroverted world as an introvert
impostor phenomenon
managing up
leading through change
growing into a leadership role
getting your ideas across more effectively
Whatever is on your mind belongs in the room.
The value of coaching
Coaching has benefits that go beyond a self-service model of growth and development. In partnership with a coach, you can expect:
Reframing.
The coach’s job is to call up the best from within the client. Often, that means asking the one question that lets you see your own story, obstacles or situation differently rather than being handed someone else’s view of it.
Presence.
A relationship with a coach means having someone fully outside your system, who sits with you over time and reflects back what’s actually there. It’s an accurate mirror, held steadily enough that you start to see yourself more clearly too.
Challenge.
Psychologist Adam Grant talks about the importance of a challenge network. A coach will ask you the question you’ve been avoiding. Others in your bubble, who may need you to keep being who you already are, may not be able to do this.

*What’s a coaching refill? Early in Jia Jiang's 100 Days of Rejection experiment to eliminate his fear of being rejected, he visited Five Guys and asked for a burger refill to go with his drink refill. You probably guessed that he didn't get one. But Alan’s clients can request a free, 15-minute top-up of coaching anytime they like! These are for updates, quick issues or just catching up.
